KATHMANDU, March 17: Astalaxmi Shakya, the candidate for the post of vice president from the CPN-UML, has said that the 10-party alliance set a wrong precedent by not fielding a woman as the vice president candidate after making a male president.
She said this while talking to the media at the Vice President's polling center on Friday. She said that she fielded herself for the position of vice president because of necessity. She said that even though she cannot work from a political point of view by sitting on the post of vice president, she can work in areas such as social transformation. She said that she is confident of winning the vice presidency.

Now, according to the constitution, it is not necessary to make male candidates, she said, accusing the 10 parties of setting a wrong trend by killing the spirit of the constitution.
She said, “It is a matter of necessity rather than a matter of my desire. The party also felt that need. It is not a position of authority but it is a position of dignity. Even if you do not have the right to stay there, you can work in areas such as social transformation. I am sure to win. Even if 10 parties sit on one side, now according to the constitution, a male candidate should not be made the vice president.”
Candidate Shakya claimed that she will win the vice presidency.
