Parties invited to stake claim for CM in Sudurpaschim Province by Sunday 5 PM

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Nazir Miya has given a deadline to the political parties until 5 PM on Sunday to form a new government. Following the resignation of Chief Minister (CM) Dirga Sodari, the province Chief Miya has initiated the government formation process according to Article 168(2) of the Constitution.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Nazir Miya has given a deadline to the political parties until 5 PM on Sunday to form a new government. Following the resignation of Chief Minister (CM) Dirga Sodari, the province Chief Miya has initiated the government formation process according to Article 168(2) of the Constitution.


With the formation of a new power equation at the center, the Sudurpaschim government led by Sodari has collapsed, and it has now been allocated to the Nepali Congress (NC) as per the agreement of central leaders.

Although it was indicated that the NC would lead the Sudurpaschim government, the decision on who will become the CM is still not finalized. There is ongoing competition among Provincial Assembly members for the Chief Minister position.


Former CM and Parliamentary Party Leader Kamal Bahadur Shah, former Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Prakash Deuba, and Provincial Assembly Member Bahadur Singh Thapa are in the race for the Chief Minister role.


The NC has stated that it will finalize the CM position through consensus and aims to complete the government formation as soon as possible.
