KATHMANDU, Aug 29: On the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Cabinet has endorsed the third amendment to the 'Correction of Age, Name and Surname Rules, 2017 BS (1963)'.
In instances where inconsistencies arose between the age, name, and surname details on educational certificates, rectifying these discrepancies posed significant challenges and was limited in duration, causing considerable distress for students. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the period for correcting age, name and caste in the certificate has now been increased to five years instead of six months.

Beda Nidhi Khanal, Undersecretary of the Home Minister's Secretariat said that the revised rules have been passed to make it easier and to expand the time to correct errors. The new rules enable individuals to apply to the National Examination Board for corrections within one year, except for those with new or updated citizenship records who are obliged to rectify their educational certificates.
In cases where a student acquires a Nepali citizenship certificate subsequent to obtaining an educational certificate, or alters their or their parents' names, surnames, or first names in alignment with the prevailing citizenship laws, they can now apply to correct their SLC, SEE, or Class 12 certificates. Such applications must be submitted within one year of receiving the citizenship certificate or amending details within the Nepali citizenship certificate.
Moreover, individuals will have one year from the date of correcting their citizenship details to apply for the rectification in their educational certificates.
