KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Radisson Hotel in Kathmandu held a traditional cake mixing ceremony on Wednesday. A team of Active Women of Nepal members (AWON) participated in the event along with general manager of the hotel Jaydeep Chakrabarti, pastry chef Ram Sapkota, head of departments and the executive team of the hotel.
The history of cake mixing ceremony can be dated back to 17th century in Europe. Earlier it had been a family event but now it is celebrated within organizations to spread friendship and goodwill.
The ingredients of the festive cake are mixed with wine and liquor in advance so that the ingredients can develop aroma and taste.
Traditional Christmas cake mixing marked as a celebration makes Christmas even interesting but it is not a quick and easy task.
The first step toward making the cake is the mixing process, formally called the cake mixing ceremony, which is also a harbinger of good tidings and happiness.
The ingredients of the cake comprises of dry fruits like black currents, sultanas, raisins , prunes, dry apricot, almond, pistachio nut, cashew nut, candied orange , glaze cherries etc.

The sugar and liquor help preserve the ingredients and also the Christmas cake. These liquor laden cakes can usually stay fresh for many months provided they are handled properly.
