Call 1137 to inform about black marketers

KATHMANDU, March 7: While there has been an artificial shortage of essentials such as face masks, hand sanitizers and cooking gas cylinders, consumers can report to the government about black marketers by calling the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection Management toll free on 1137.

KATHMANDU, March 7: While there has been an artificial shortage of essentials such as face masks, hand sanitizers and cooking gas cylinders, consumers can report to the government about black marketers by calling the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection Management toll free on 1137.


“If dealers are found creating any artificial shortage of essential goods, consumers can call the toll free number. Retailers found at fault will be slapped a fine of up to Rs 200,000 for creating an artificial shortage in the market,” said Netra Prasad Subedi, director general at the department. He added that the department has already taken action against some retailers.

Another box: Govt to be requested customs exemption on masks, sanitizers


The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection Management is requesting the Ministry of Finance to exempt customs duty on the import of medical masks and sanitizers. During a meeting between stakeholders on Friday, the department decided to request the ministry to exempt customs duty to increase the supply of masks and sanitizers amid the shortage.
