Campaign against GBV begins in Chitwan

CHITWAN, May 6: A campaign aims to make responsible for controlling human trafficking and gender-based violence (GBV) has kicked off at Padampur of Chitwan. 


The campaign that formally begun Saturday with the theme of "I, one responsible male" is launched by the Kalika Municipality, Chitwan. 


On Saturday, a public awareness rally against human trafficking and gender-based violence was organised as part of the campaign. Speaking on the occasion, Province 3 State Assembly member Ghanshyam Dahal urged men to change their perception towards women and not to view them as the 'source of entertainment'.

The campaign is supported by KI Nepal, Cheli Nepal, Area Police Office Ratnangar, Nepal Teachers' Federation, Kalika committee and National Trust for Nature Conservation. 


Addressing the rally, KI Nepal programme director Indraraj Bhattarai insisted on collective efforts from all walks of life to make the campaign a success. "Girls are discriminated before their birth and are killed in the womb," he said, expressing his concern over increasing sex selective abortion. 


Area Police Office Ratnangar's Deputy Superintendent of Police Basudev Khatiwada said Padampur was not an exception in terms of the occurrence of gender-based violence, expressing his hope that it the campaign would help minimise it. 


Women rights activist Sangita Bhattarai sought commitments from all against violence against women. 


School students, representatives from various organisations and 13 people (from the United States of America) involved in anti-violence campaign had joined the rally. RSS
