ROLPA, June 27: A case has been filed against a school teacher, Laxmi Pun, who had thrashed five students at a primary school in Rolpa district on May 26 seriously injuring them.
Although the district police recommended filing a case of public offense, the provincial government filed the case as an offense against children.
As per the Children’s Act 2018, committing any type of offense against children punishable under the Section 72 3(a) of the act. Section 73 and 67 (1) of the act ensures compensation to the victims and there is a provision of penalizing the offender under various circumstances.

The students including Bhim Kumari Batha Magar, Nirmala Pun Magar, Gauri Gharti Magar, Shanta Nepali and Bimala Rokka were beaten black and blue with a cane for being late to class.
The case was filed at the district court on June 19 stating an offense against children.
Advocate Kedarnath Upadhayay said that the case filed under ‘offense against children’ is the first-ever such case recorded in the district court’s history.
“The case demands compensation of up to Rs 50,000 and one year in jail,” said Upadhayay.
“Their X-ray reports show serious injuries in their arms and shoulders. Although their arms were swollen, there were no signs that they were broken or fractured,” added Uapdhayay.
The victims were taken to Tulsipur-based Sahara Polyclinic in Dang district where Dr Ghanashyam Sharma put plaster casts on the arms of the five victims. According to the doctor, the children were suffering from injuries on their joints, nerves, elbows and shoulders.
Pun who worked at Bhanu Adharbhut School of Rungtighadi Rural Municipality-8, was taken under custody by the district police on Monday.
