ARGHAKHANCHI, Jan 30: Former energy minister Barsha Man Pun has said that the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and former energy minister Janardan Sharma should be given full credit for ending the chronic load-shedding problem that Nepal witnessed for a long time.

Addressing a press conference organized by the District Committee of Dahal-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in Arghakhanchi on Saturday, former Minister Pun said that there is no need for any other person in the country to take credit for ending the power outage problem. He maintained that people have already understood who helped bring this problem to an end.

"I have seen some people delivering speeches about ending the loadshedding," he said while indicating at a recent speech made by Energy Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi. "The fact that everyone knows will not change just because someone repeatedly says otherwise." Rayamajhi, who hails from Arghakhanchi district, is currently serving as the energy minister after Pun tendered his resignation from the post following the decision of Prime Minister Oli to dissolve parliament.

Pun said that it was during the premiership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal that the loadshedding in the country had come to an end. The then energy minister Sharma had appointed Kul Man Ghising as the managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority.

Pun said that it was unfortunate that a schedule of load shedding has been publicized even as the country's power generating capacity has increased.

In a separate context, Pun asked the Oli faction to join the party's mainstream. Arguing that the Dahal-Nepal-led faction has a majority in all the party's committees, he said it is not good for the party's leaders and cadres to be part of one small faction of the party.
