KATHMANDU, March 23: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday filed a corruption case against tax officer Man Prasad BK on the charge of amassing Rs. 18.2 million in unexplained wealth while in government service.
BK, a local from Rolpa who joined the civil service in 2011, has been accused of amassing Rs. 18. 2 million in the eight years since . Calculating his regular income and what was earned by his wife Aaitamali, his expenditures, other property and bank deposits, the anti-graft body concluded that BK amassed Rs. 18.2 million through misuse of his position.

BK was a temporary teacher for two years at Shree Krishna Higher Secondary School in Rolpa under the relief quota before joining the civil service.
He started in government service as a tax officer at Bhairahawa Customs and is currently at Panchthar Tax Office, Phidim.
The charge-sheet filed by the CIAA states that BK and his wife could account for just Rs 17.6 million in their net assets whereas he is found to be in possession of property worth Rs 31.1 million. “His assets seem beyond his actual earnings and his family is living a lavish life,” states the charge-sheet.
The anti-graft body has concluded that the BK family had invested illegal assets in housing, build infrastructure and engaged in businesses after the couple joined government service.
The CIAA has demanded seizure of illegally amassed property and action against the BK couple under anti-corruption law .
