CoAS Trophy concludes

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Chief of Army Staff Trophy 2074 concluded on Friday. No 16 Brigade finished first in the month-long tournament which kicked off on August 18.

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Chief of Army Staff Trophy 2074 concluded on Friday. No 16 Brigade finished first in the month-long tournament which kicked off on August 18. 


Likewise, the Valley Division Headquarters and Mid-Division Headquarters finished joint second in the event. 


On the final day of the tournament, Eastern Division Headquarters won the title of Division Headquarters Running Shield Football Tournament defeating No 16 Brigade by 1-0. 

CoAS General Rajendra Chhetri honored coaches and players for their contribution to sports during the occasion.

Altogether ten teams of the Nepal Army, including six Divisions Headquarters, Supporting Arms, and Special Forces participated in the tournament. The tournament included competition in athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football and kabbadi.


Corporal Som Kumal of No 16 Brigade stole the show during the tournament as he won the men’s 400 meters final breaking the army record of 49 seconds.


Meanwhile, army chief General Rajendra Chhetri inaugurated the renovated army stadium at the Army Headquarters, Bhadrakali. 


According to the Directorate of Public Relation of the Nepal Army, the stadium with synthetic rubber track and natural grass pitch is suitable to host international standard games. 


The stadium can host games like football, athletics, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, javlin throw, discus throw, hammer throw, shot-put, as well as steeplechase among other games, reads a press statement issued by DPR. 


COAS Trophy was first introduced in 2065 BS, with an aim to enhance sprite de corps and to produce quality athletes competent to take part in international platform, Nepal Army wrote on its website. 


“Nepali Army believes this kind of exposure to the athletes will be extremely fruitful for the sustainable development of the sports in national and international stages.”
