KHAJURA, Dec 29: Increasing cold for the past three days has crippled life in western Terai including Banke district. As a result, people's mobility and traffic have gone down while patients of asthma, pneumonia, common cold and fever have increased. The weather has been densely foggy since this morning. "We are restricted inside the house due to the cold," said Ram Suhaban Yadav of Nepalgunj.

Senior citizens, children, daily wagers and poor people have been particularly affected due to the cold. Daily wage workers are finding it difficult to go to work as a result of the cold, said Ramdin Godiya of Duduwa Rural Municipality in Banke district. "We are left high and dry to support our families without money. We do not have enough food to eat and clothing to warm ourselves. We are keeping ourselves warm by burning firewood," he said.
