NEPALGUNJ, Dec 29: Local politicians and civil society leaders have formed a committee with a demand to integrate Banke and Bardiya districts in Karnali Province.

Citing Banke and Bardiya have been lagging behind for being in Province 5, political parties want these districts to be integrated in Karnali Province. Except Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) and Samajbadi Party Nepal, all the political parties want these districts to be integrated in Karnali Province.

The political parties have said that it has been difficult for the locals in Banke and Bardiya after Butwal was made the temporary capital of Province 5. Likewise, they also say that it would be unsuitable for the residents of Banke and Bardiya if the capital is fixed east of Dang.

“Banke and Bardiya districts were put at the receiving end following the new state restructuring in federalism,” said Dhawal Shumsher Rana, mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City.    “We don't want to be a part of Province 5 anymore. The two districts will be merged in Karnali Province,” he added.  “Banke and Bardiya should not be put in Province 5. There is no other option than to integrate these districts in the Karnali Province,” said Sudhanshu Koirala, a Nepali Congress leader.

According to Chitra Bahadur KC, an advocate, municipal and provincial assemblies, and federal parliament should endorse the proposal to merge the two districts in Karnali Province.
