Complaint filed against persons named by Acharya before self-immolation

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: A complaint has been filed at the Kathmandu Police Range Office against the individuals mentioned by Prem Prasad Acharya, who put himself on fire after sprinkling petrol on his body in front of the federal parliament building in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: A complaint has been filed at the Kathmandu Police Range Office against the individuals mentioned by Prem Prasad Acharya, who put himself on fire after sprinkling petrol on his body in front of the federal parliament building in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu on Tuesday.


Advocate Swagat Nepal on Thursday filed a case against all the persons in question, accusing them of abetting Acharya to take a harsh measure of self-immolation, according to Superintendent of Police Dinesh Raj Mainali, who is also spokesperson of the Kathmandu Police Range Office.

Acharya, a permanent resident of Ilam, set himself on fire in New Baneshwar on Tuesday by pouring petrol on his body. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Burn Hospital in Kirtipur on Wednesday.


In the note written on his Facebook, Acharya mentioned that he was forced to commit self-immolation as he was in debt of more than Rs 6 million in businesses involving travel agency, hotel, dairy products, tea and fermented leafy vegetables and agricultural farm.


Acharya in his facebook post complained that he was subjected to insurmountable hardships due to the corrupt system in the country. He complained that he did not even get the subsidies provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Management.


In his rather lengthy note, Acharya also mentioned that he did not get payment for the goods he supplied to the companies and individuals including Upendra Mahato, Nepal Gramodhyog, Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Big Mart, Golyan Agro, Sathimart, Metrotarkari.com and NEP EXPRESS UAE, Dabur Nepal Pvt. Ltd, Sun Nepal Life Insurance Company and Pantanjali, among others.
