NEPALGUNJ, June 21: The number of complaints against those who have duped foreign job aspirants has been on the rise in Banke district.
Kamal Singh Nepali, coordinator of the Safer Migration (SaMi) program, Banke, informed Republica that eight complaints were received in the fiscal year 2020/21 at the Migration Resource Center operated at the District Administration Office, Banke, under the SaMi program and in the fiscal year 2023/24, the number increased to 47. This program is being run in four local bodies.
It is said that individuals seeking foreign employment are sometimes misled with promises of one job and then assigned to another job or transferred to a different company. In addition, they often receive lower wages than initially promised before venturing for foreign employment.

In the fiscal year 2020/21, only 8 complaints were filed but in 2023/24, the number of cases reached 47,” said Nepali. This program is operational in four local bodies.
After the start of the SaMi program, the locals have become aware,” Nepali said, “That’s why the number of complaints has increased.” In some cases of fraud, the District Administration summons both the victim and the perpetrator, as they can enter into an agreement after the perpetrator agrees to pay compensation. Nepali said that they are sent to the Department of Foreign Employment when an agreement between the victim and the perpetrator is elusive.
According to Nepali, within one year of the implementation of the SaMi program, 10,736 people and after four years of implementation of the same program, as many as 28,466 people have received the information and counseling.
The Social Mobilization Officer Ghanshyam Wali of the same program said that the financial literacy programs conducted in Nepalgunj, Kohalpur, Khajura, Baijanath were effective.
The SaMi Program Officer Lakshmi Chaudhary of the Foreign Employment Board suggested, it is appropriate to go abroad for foreign employment only after taking a labor permit.
