KATHMANDU, Aug 1: A meeting of the Constitutional Council is scheduled to convene today to recommend the next Chief Justice. The meeting, which will take place at 4:00 PM at Singh Durbar, aims to finalize the candidate for the position.
Notably, there is a provision in the Constitution allowing the recommendation of a new Chief Justice up to one month before the end of the incumbent's term.
Chief Justice likely to be recommended today
However, the government has chosen to overlook this provision and is planning to recommend a new Chief Justice just a few days before the current Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki's term concludes on August 5.
During today's meeting, the Council will propose Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who ranks first in the order of priority, for the position of Chief Justice.
