KATHMANDU, Dec 3: The Constitutional Council (CC) headed by Prime Minister KP Oli is scheduled to meet on Monday morning to pick the successor to Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, the prime minister’s secretariat said on Sunday.

The council, which is headed by the prime minister, has Chief Justice Mishra, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, upper house chairman Ganesh Timalsina, deputy speaker Shivamaya Tumbahamphe and law minister Bhanubhakta Dhakal as ex-officio members.

The Judicial Council secretariat had last week recommended seniormost justice Deepak Raj Joshee and justice Cholendra SJB Rana for appointment as the next chief justice. The secretariat made the recommendation as the council could not meet due to the differences between seniormost justice Joshee and law minister Dhakal.
