COVID-19 patients paying as much as Rs 270,000 to reach nearest hospital

After encountering problems in his health, the infected patient said that he had to pay Rs 270,000 to charter a helicopter to be transported from the COVID hospital in Yamkha of Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-1 to the capital.

KHOTANG, August 1: A person infected by COVID-19 in Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-7 of Khotang district was airlifted by a helicopter to a hospital. After encountering problems in his health, the infected patient said that he had to pay Rs 270,000 to charter a helicopter to be transported from the COVID hospital in Yamkha of Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-1 to the capital. 


The infected patient has decided not to reveal his personal information but belongs to the Rai community.

According to Amrit Giri, a village council member of the rural municipality, the infected patient is currently admitted to Alka Hospital and is undergoing treatment there. 


Earlier, Rai had arrived at the COVID hospital by driving his own motorcycle, and tested positive for COVID-19.


During the pandemic, more than a dozen people from the rural district have no other alternative but to charter a hospital to reach a hospital.
