COVID-19 spreading among youths in Karnali Province

65 percent of COVID-19 patients in the province are from the 21 to 40 years age group


SURKHET, Sept 12: Most of the COVID-19 patients in Karnali Province are youths aged between 21 and 49 years.


According to the Ministry of Social Development of the province, of the 2,725 people diagnosed with the viral disease, 41 percent are people of 21 to 30 years age group and 24 percent are of 31 to 40 years age group.

Likewise, of the total COVID-19 patients in the province, four percent are children below 10 years of age, 15 percent are teenagers of 11 to 19 years, nine percent are people of 41 to 50 years of age, five percent are 51 to 60 years old and two percent are above 60.


Similarly, the rate of COVID-19 infection is higher among males than females in Karnali Province. So far, as many as 2,285 males have contracted the virus in the province which is 84 percent of the total infected people.


As many as 75,000 migrant laborers have returned to Karnali Province after the lockdown enforced by the government in late March. Some 62 COVID-19 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Units (ISUs) and 26 others are on ventilators across the province.


As of the latest data, the COVID-19 death toll of the province stands at six.
