The Kathmandu Valley alone has more than half of the active cases of COVID-19 across the country


KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Nepal on Monday confirmed 2,933 new cases of COVID-19. The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), through its online COVID-19 updates, reported that 1,757 males and 1,176 females of the 13,446 people who went through real time- polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests across the country in the past 24 hours were diagnosed with this viral infection.

With the new cases added to the national COVID-19 case tally, Nepal’s caseload has advanced to 176,500. Of them, 78.2 percent ---- 137,992 patients --- have so far recovered while 984 have died. Nepal on Monday reported 3,150 recoveries and 24 fatalities due to COVID-19. 


Nepal had reported the first case of the disease on January 23 earlier this year while the first death was reported on May 16. 


Nepal has a total of 37,524 active cases of the disease as of Monday afternoon, according to the ministry. 


The Kathmandu Valley on Monday confirmed 1,630 cases (928 males and 702 females), taking the Valley’s COVID-19 case tally to 79,600.


According to the latest data released by the health ministry, the Valley, where lies the country’s capital city, hosts 19,439 active cases of the disease which accounts for 51.80 percent of the total active cases across the country.
