KATHMANDU, March 15: The Madhav Nepal-led faction of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) has taken strong exception to "unilateral decisions" taken by the party's central committee meeting on March 12.

At the central committee meeting held at the Dhumbarahi-based party headquarters on Monday, the Nepal-led faction demanded that "unilateral decisions" taken by the party's central committee meeting on March 12 be scrapped, according to Raghuji Pant, a central committee member belonging to the Nepal-led faction.

"We were not aware of the meeting that took place on March 12 and its decisions. It was against the party's statute. However, we attended today's meeting and expressed our views that unilateral decisions taken by the erstwhile meeting should be scrapped," Pant told Republica. Pant said that the meeting ended on a positive note.

This was the first time senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and leaders belonging to his faction attended the party's central committee meeting after they returned to their mother party after the Supreme Court revived the CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Center) while invalidating the Nepal Communist Party which was formed after the unification between the CPN (UML) and CPN (MC) in 2018.

In a picture, which is now doing rounds on social media, leaders belonging to the Nepal-led faction are seen sharing the podium with Chairperson Oli during the meeting.

Leaders belonging to the Oli-led faction—Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Subash Nembang, Ishwar Pokharel, and Bishnu Poudel--attended the meeting while senior leader Nepal, Bhim Rawal and Ghanshyal Bhusal participated the meeting from the Nepal-led faction. Jhalanath Khanal, other leader of the Nepal-led faction, however, did not attend the meeting.

On March 12, the central committee meeting dominated by the Oli-led faction made various decisions without taking consent of the Nepal-led faction.

The meeting also nominated 23 new members to the party’s Central Committee (CC). The meeting decided to nominate 23 former Maoist leaders who chose to join the UML as CC members.
