CPN (Unified Socialist) party in a dilemma to choose ministers

KATHMANDU, August 27: A race of sorts has begun among the lawmakers of the CPN (Unified Socialist) to become a minister in the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet after he announced to give six ministerial berths and “two more ministries if necessary” to the newly-formed party led by former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal.

KATHMANDU, August 27: A race of sorts has begun among the lawmakers of the CPN (Unified Socialist) to become a minister in the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet after he announced to give six ministerial berths and “two more ministries if necessary” to the newly-formed party led by former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal. As per an agreement reached among the members of the coalition government, Deuba has agreed to allot six ministerial berths to the Unified Socialist party. 


According to a leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) party, Khimlal Devkota, Bamdev Gautam and his wife Tulsa Thapa among other lawmakers are also in the race to become a minister on behalf of the new party.

In addition, Beduram Bhusal, Birodh Khatiwada and Mukunda Neupane are also among those wanting to become ministers. 


A close supporter of Nepal, Metmani Chaudhary is also in the race to become a minister alongside Prem Ale and Kisan Shrestha, who were previously the supporters of the Oli-led faction in the CPN-UML. Also, Ram Kumari Jhakri has expressed her desire to become a minister as well, a lawmaker informed Republica.  


Similarly, Nira Devi Jairu from Sudurpaschim Province has claimed that she should be a minister, while Parwati Bishanke has been lobbying for herself, saying that she should become the minister from the Dalit quota. 


As lawmakers and central members have also shown their interest to become ministers, Madhav Kumar Nepal has decided to hold discussions on the issue with leaders close to him.
