BHAKTAPUR, March 29: Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) is set to extend the technical training period for courses in cooking, welding, carpentry and plumbing to one year.

The CTEVT on Tuesday held an interactive programme on professional course development and operation kick starting the modification process of the existing course period of three months or 390 hours.

Now the courses will be extended to 1600 hours or a year, CTEVT Member Secretary, Ramesh Bakhati said.

The Council will now be augmenting the existing course period due to ineffectiveness of the short period training.

Member Secretary Bakhati added that the Council was mulling over providing a special scholarship scheme targeting the 280 endangered communities including the Chepang community.

As part of the scheme, the selected students will be provided food, lodging and other facilities including Rs 3500 in economic assistance on a monthly basis. RSS
