KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Nava Raj Dahal has been elected the president of Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN).
In the election for the new executive held in Kathmandu on Sunday, Dahal edged his opponent Mohan Lamsal by 14 votes.

Similarly, Khum Bahadur Subedi, Jivan Thapa Magar and Nilhari Bastola have been elected Senior Vice President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President of the association, respectively, while Ang Pemba Sherpa has been elected to the post of general secretary and Sujan Lamichhane to the post of secretary. Ram Krishna Timilsina and Tara Rana are the treasurer and joint-treasurer, respectively, in the new executive committee.
According to the association, Ritu Gyamdan, Jivan Lama, Rabindra Adhikari, Gopal Shrestha, Baburam Gurung, Jung Bahadur Lama, Rajan Prasad Kapri, Suk Bahadur Lama and Sher Bahadur Pariyar have been elected executive members.
Talking to Republica after his election to the post, Dahal said that his team would resolve all burning issues in the Nepali trekking and adventure tourism sector. “The first that my team will do is take needful decision for controlling illegal operation of trekking business by unauthorized individuals or groups. After that, we will work to introduce a rule that requires trekkers to hire at least a guide or a porter,” Dahal, who is also the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia for Nepal, added.
He further added that the rule, if implemented, will create many jobs in the trekking industry and ensure safety and security of trekkers.
