Damage by hail, rainfall in Pokhara estimated at Rs 110 million

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The hail and rainfall that poured over the Pokhara Metropolitan City on Sunday caused damages worth Rs 110 million, according to the Agriculture and Livestock Development Division of Pokhara. 

The disrupted weather caused many animals to die of cold while it destroyed much of the crops and vegetables. According to the Chief of Agriculture Division, Manohar Kadariya, the hail, and rainfall caused heavy damages in Pokhara-9, 11, 13, and 18 while other wards were less affected.

Vegetable farming in Pokhara Metropolis is spread over 2,181 hectares of land. Similarly, fruit farms are spread over 320 hectares and potato farms on 1,253 hectares of land. The hail and rainfall of February 20 have affected many of the farmlands spread across the metropolis. 

The weather had also disrupted traffic across the city. The local authorities even had to use dozers to clear the hail from the roadways.
