CHITWAN, Sept 10: Protesters picketed the District Administration Office (DAO) of Chitwan, on Friday, demanding that the US grant project - the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) - be scrapped. The MCC Abolition Campaign Joint Struggle Committee Chitwan gheraoed the DAO on Friday afternoon, chanting anti-MCC slogans and brandishing black flags.
Two separate teams staged demonstrations at the north and south sides of the DAO. During the demonstration, the protesters chanted slogans such as 'scrap the treasonous agreement' and 'beware brokers'. They also chanted slogans against Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand. A large number of security personnel were mobilized after receiving information about the protesters’ plan to siege the DAO.

Chairperson of the MCC Abolition Campaign Joint Struggle Committee, Chitwan, Phanindra Acharya said that the MCC agreement should be scrapped as it contains ‘treasonous provisions’. “As the United States has said it will not amend the MCC agreement, there is no option but to scrap it,” he said.
The struggle committee has been holding protests and demonstrations for the past few days demanding the scrapping of the MCC agreement. The committee has given an ultimatum to the three MPs elected to the federal parliament from Chitwan to publicly declare their opposition to the MCC.
The ultimatum will expire at 6PM on Friday. Secretary of the Struggle Committee, Ajiv Poudel, said that if they did not declare their opposition to the MCC within that period, protests would be held near their homes.
