KATHMANDU, Sept 30: While markets in the urban areas of Nepal are nowadays flooded with people buying new clothes and other items for the upcoming Dashain festival, Maili Maya Tamang is busy chalking her house located in Kafalchaur of Changunarayan Municipality, on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley.

Her son is helping her in chalking all the corners and fronts of their residence. Chalking the house is something which signals the arrival of Dashain in the rural areas of Nepa. The practice of chalking the house before the Dashain festival is not very common these days even in the rural areas but Maili Maya still continues with the tradition.
