ARGHAKHANCHI, Nov 29: Students and political leaders have hit the streets in the district calling for an integrated Province -5.
Students and youth leaders affiliated to Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) have taken out a huge rally at the district headquarters Sandhikharka on Tuesday.
The people of the hill districts have upped the ante after the government made preparations to bring a constitution amendment proposal to split five hill districts from Province 5.
Hill people have been agitated after the government made preparations to bring the constitution amendment proposal to include Arghakhanchi, Gulmi and Palpa in Province 4 and Pyuthan and Rolpa in Province 6.
Locals warn against breaking Province No 5
Hundreds of youths, students and political leaders have demonstrated in Sandhikharka bazaar before they converged into a corner meeting in front of District Administration Office today.
“Our demonstration will continue unless the government withdraws its constitution amendment proposal to separate hill districts from Province 5,” said Narayan Khadka, district president of Tarun Dal.
Speaking on the occasion, Govinda Acharya, chairman of Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) said, “the five hill districts of Province 5 do not want to get separated from the Tarai. The decision made against the will of the people is unacceptable to us.”
Similarly, Young Communist League (YCL) central member and Arghakhanchi in-charge Thakur Saurag suggested that Province 5 should not be split as it has essential compenents of a province such as identity and economy.
