Disappointing day for Nepali players in junior tennis

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Nepali tennis players Saurav Raj Pandey, Pranav Khanal and Sakchham Karki all faced defeat in the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior Tennis Tournament on Tuesday in the boys' singles section. In the matches played at Satdobato's tennis court, the Nepali players lost to Indian opponents Aditya Iyer, Piyush S Salekar and Adarsha Naga Tippabhatla respectively.

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Nepali tennis players Saurav Raj Pandey, Pranav Khanal and Sakchham Karki all faced defeat in the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior Tennis Tournament on Tuesday in the boys' singles section. In the matches played at Satdobato's tennis court, the Nepali players lost to Indian opponents Aditya Iyer, Piyush S Salekar and Adarsha Naga Tippabhatla respectively. 



Saurav faced straight sets defeat of 0-6, 0-6 to Aditya while Pranav was edged past by Piyush with the score line of 1-6, 3-6 and Sakchham lost to Aadarsha 2-6, 1-6. With the wins, the victorious Indian players have booked their places in the second round. In the same event, Poland's Michal Woznlak also made it to the second round defeating Guanglin Wen of China 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. 



Similarly, in the girls' category, Mio Kozaki of Japan, India's Sharannya Gaware and Chinese duo Na Dong and Yujiao Che registered wins in their respective matches. Mio and Sharannya defeated Chinese opponents Jingyi Wang and Chunxi Guo 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively. Similarly, Na Dong and Yujiao eased past Indian players Bhavya Raminent and Riya Uboveja with the score line of 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively. All the winners reached the second round of the event. 



The tournament being organized by All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANLTA) from Monday features 32 players from 11 nations including host Nepal.
