Nepali players' poor run continues in junior tennis

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Nepal's poor run in the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Circuit-I Tennis Tournament continued on Wednesday as the home team's only remaining participants Mayanka Rana, Renjan Lama and Samrakshak Bajracharya all crashed out from the competition.

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Nepal's poor run in the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Circuit-I Tennis Tournament continued on Wednesday as the home team's only remaining participants Mayanka Rana, Renjan Lama and Samrakshak Bajracharya all crashed out from the competition. 



In the girls singles' round two match played at Satdobato's tennis court, Mayanka faced 6-3, 7-6 defeat to Indian opponent Sharannya Gaware while Renjan was beaten by Atharve Sharma of India 6-3, 6-4 in the boys singles. Similarly in the boys doubles' quarterfinal, Samrakshak along with his partner Mathew Yee of Hong Kong lost to the pair of Jaishvin Sidana and Adarsha Naga Tippabhatla 6-2, 6-4. 



Similarly, Indian players Shivani Swarup Ingle, Vaidehi Chaudhari, China's Jing Yang and Yujiao Che reached the quarterfinals from the girls singles. 



In other matches of the same event, Thai player Punin Kovapitukted beat Anika Seneviratne 6-0, 6-1, Japan's Mio Kozaki overcame Kiran Kalkal 7-5, 6-0 and China's Mingqiao Yang defeated Gauri Agrawal 6-0, 6-1. All the victorious players in the girls singles advanced to the last eight of the tournament. 



In the boys singles event, five other Indian players including Mritunjya Badola, Dipin Wadhwa, Piyush S Salekara Ishan Sethi and Kabir Manrai reached the quarterfinals winning their respective matches.  Mrityunjay defeated compatriot Adarsha Tippabhatla 6-4, 6-3, while Dipin eased past Japan's Ryo Lizumi 6-3, 7-5. Similarly, Piyush and Ishan defeated Theertha S Macherla and Pratyush Mohanty of the same nation with the score line of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively. China's Pengyu Lu and Poland's Michal Woznak also reached the last eight from the same event beating India's Aditya Iyer and Gujan Jhadav  4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively. 



In the boys doubles event, the Chinese pair of Pengyu Lu and Guangsen Wen reached the last four of the tournament beating the Indian pair of Theertha S Macherla and Kabir Manrai 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. In the same event, the Indian pair of Gunjan Jhadav and Atharva Sharma defeated the Chinese pair of Guanglin Wen and Yu Lun Zie 6-4, 6-1 to book their places in the semifinal. Similarly, the pair of Mrityunjay Badola and Dipin Wadhwa also confirmed their spots in the last four overcoming the pair of Aditya Iyer and Piyush Surendra Salekar 6-3, 6-0.
