KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Member of National Human Rights Commission Sudeep Pathak has stressed the need for drafting a separate law to address issues pertaining to the management of the disqualified Maoists combatants.
Addressing a function organized by a group of former People's Liberation Army soldiers in the capital on Thursday, Pathak urged the government to formulate a separate law to deal with issues relating to the Maoists combatants.

The then PLA cadres organized the program to draw the attention of the NHRC and concerned government agencies over the plights in the daily life of child soldiers and other former Maoists combatants.
During the program, Pathak viewed that former PLA combatants should be able to enjoy a dignified life. "If there is the will of the political parties, it is not a big deal to formulate laws relating to the former PLAs," he argued.
However, Manchala Jha, a former member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, opined that it is difficult to bring such laws to deal exclusively with the former PLA issues.
"It would be better to amend the existing TRC act instead of bringing the new law," she said. Experts view that the former PLAs should be given compensation and ensure their basic needs.
