KATHMANDU.JUNE 17: The Election Commission (EC) has started registering new voters in the voters list in view of the federal and provincial elections. The distribution of National Identity Cards, too, has started in Kathmandu from June 15.
However, the service seekers are not satisfied despite the government starting to provide National Identity Cards. Arrangements have been made for the people living in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to receive their National Identity Cards from the City Hall.
Government starts printing National Identity Card
Jagat Mohan Shrestha of KMC-2 said that even though the people lined up from as early as 4 in the morning to get the identity cards, they didn’t get it even after 4 in the evening. He said that even after filling up the online form, it took a long time to take the photo for the card. According to Shrestha, if the national identity cards and citizenship do the same thing then the national identity card should be scrapped.
Similarly, Him Bahadur Bohora said that he had to return empty-handed after the officials at the City Hall said that work could be completed only tomorrow. Bohora , who was there to get the national identity card for his daughter, was sent by the District Administration Office to the City Hall.
Bohora said that he had been waiting in line since morning but when it was his turn, the officials said that their work would be completed tomorrow. He said that he had come to get a national identity card as the citizenship alone was not enough for a passport for his daughter to study abroad.
