KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Doctors have suggested to deputy general secretary of the CPN (Maoist Center) Barshaman Pun to undergo a liver transplant.

Pun, who is suffering from hereditary jaundice (kamalpitta), was admitted to Sumeru Hospital in Lalitpur and is being treated after he started having health problems again on January 14.

Dr Yuvraj Sharma, a liver and stomach specialist involved in his treatment, said that although his health has improved now, he needs a liver transplant to solve his long-term problem.

"He has liver problems due to jaundice, we are thinking whether it is possible to fix the liver by other alternative treatments," he said, "But since his liver is already in a weak state, it is best to get a liver transplant. We have even discussed this with his family."

Dr Sharma also said that he will discuss with the patient about where and how to do the liver transplant. He went to China for treatment last December after he had health problems due to jaundice.
