DANG, April 4; Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) Parliamentary Party in Lumbini Province Assembly, is set to be appointed as the Chief Minister (CM) of the province.
A total of 29 provincial assembly members from UML, 10 from Maoist Center (excluding the Speaker), three from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), one from CPN (Unified Socialist), and an independent provincial assembly member have expressed their support for Mahara’s appointment as the new CM of Lumbini Province.

With this backing, Mahara has secured a majority of 44 votes in the provincial assembly. The new coalition consisting of four parties and an independent provincial assembly member has agreed on five key points including Mahara’s appointment as the Chief Minister.
“We took the decision to appoint the leader of the Maoist parliamentary party as the chief minister,” said Chief Whip Indrajit Chaudhary, “We have established a clear majority in favor of the alliance.”
