KATHMANDU, April 26: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has requested the relevant parties to ensure proper facilities for Nepali workers traveling abroad for employment.

The DoFE has written to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) and the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) on Wednesday and requested them to ensure that airfare for Nepali workers includes essential amenities such as food, snacks and water at reasonable prices.

Nepali workers heading to countries in the Middle East and Malaysia often endure long flights of approximately four hours, coupled with a mandatory airport wait of three hours before departure.

Director General of DoFE, Dandu Raj Ghimire, stated that the DoFE initiated discussions with stakeholders following numerous complaints regarding inadequate provisions of food, snacks, and water during these extended journeys.

"We have received complaints from workers who have had to travel hungry due to the unavailability of basic amenities. After deliberations with stakeholders, we have requested them to ensure that essential facilities are included in the air ticket itself," Ghimire explained.

Additionally, Director General Ghimire highlighted that DoFE is taking steps within its jurisdiction to address concerns raised about manpower agencies deploying workers under individual labor permits.
