DoT issues 451 climbing permits for this spring season, Rs 256.97 million in royalties collected so far

KATHMANDU, April 7: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has issued 451 climbing permits for this spring climbing season. 


A total of 53 teams have received permits to scale various mountains and peaks across the country. Among them, 341 are male while 110 are female climbers.

The DoT has collected over Rs, 256.97 million in royalties from issuing climbing permits as of Tuesday. Of the total permits issued, 176 permits have been issued for Mt Sagarmatha. Over Rs 222.54 million was collected from issuing permits to the world’s highest mountain alone.


According to the information provided by the DoT, as many as 81 climbers have arrived from the United States of America so far. Similarly, 37 climbers have arrived from the United Kingdom, 30 from India, 27 from France, 21 from Canada, 17 from Australia, and 16 from China, and Russia respectively, among other nations for mountaineering purposes. 


Nepal has attracted climbers from 58 different countries to scale its peaks and mountains for this spring climbing season.
