EC directs Land Commission not to distribute land ownership certificates

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Election Commission (EC) has directed the National Land Commission to immediately stop the distribution of land ownership certificates.

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Election Commission (EC) has directed the National Land Commission to immediately stop the distribution of land ownership certificates. 


Likewise, all the three tiers of governments have been asked not to allow any foreign visits during the period where the election code of conduct has already come into effect.

The EC in a press statement made such a directive in view of the preparation intensified for the scheduled elections to the Provincial Assemblies and federal parliament, and the dates for submission of close lists of candidates under proportional electoral system have been fixed on September 18 and 19.


The Land Commission has been further directed to provide every information on distribution of land ownership certificates and land mapping within the next two days to the EC. The election body said these measures are aimed at maintaining fairness and credibility of elections.
