EC publicizes final results of HoR and provincial assembly polls

KATHMANDU, Dec 14; The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday published the final result of the parliamentary elections held on November 20 this year.


The EC made public the results of the elections held under the First-Past-The-Post and Proportional Representation systems. The final result will be presented to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday, according to Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya. President Bhandari will then invite political parties to form a new government.


The EC publicized the results of 275 HoR members and 550 members of provincial assemblies. According to the EC, a total of 184 males candidates (66.90 percent) and 91 female members (33.10) were elected to the HoR.

Similarly, a total of 350 male candidates (63.64 percent) and 200 female members (36.36 percent) were elected in provincial assemblies.


According to the EC, the number of voters who cast their votes in the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system was higher than the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) electoral system. Similarly, the number of invalid votes was higher in the PR electoral system than in the FPTP electoral system.


A total of 1,10,47,034 votes were cast under the FPTP electoral system under the HoR. Of them, only 1,04,87,958 votes were declared valid. The percentage of invalid votes was 5.06.


Similarly, a total 1,11,26,226 votes were cast in the PR electoral system. Of them, 1,04,87,958 votes were declared valid. The percentage of votes declared invalid was 5.09 percent of the total votes cast.


Likewise, a total of 1,10,34,500 votes were cast under FPTP in the provincial assembly election. Of them, 1,05,85,300 votes were declared valid in the election. The percentage of invalid votes stood at 4.07.


In the PR electoral system, a total of 1,10,28,376 votes were cast in the provincial assembly election. Of them, 1,05,85,300 votes were declared valid. According to the EC, the percentage of invalid votes in the PR electoral system of the provincial assemblies stood at 6.55.
