KATHMANDU, Nov 10: The Election Commission (EC) has sought Bagmati Chief Minister Rajendra Pandey and Chief Secretary Mukund Prasad Niraula to furnish clarification within 24 hours.
The EC asked for an explanation as the provincial government issued an ordinance to make arrangements for the establishment and operation of provincial handicraft villages even after the election code of conduct came into force.
EC seeks 24-hour clarification from Madhesh CM Yadav
The Election Code of Conduct clearly mentions that programs other than those approved in the annual budget and program or new policies, plans or programs should not be announced, approved or implemented. However, the Bagmati Province government issued two ordinances on October 16.
While concluding that this is contrary to Section 5 (B) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2079, the EC has instructed the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law not to publish it in the National Gazette.
