KATHMANDU, March 23: With the date for the local elections approaching, the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide details of the licensed weapons temporarily handed over to the District Adminstration Offices (DAOs) by private individuals.

The commission has asked the ministry to provide the details of licensed weapons at the earliest. It has also asked the local adminstration to give details of illegal weapons confiscated in recent days.

All 75 DAOs have collected both licensed and illegal weapons from locals in view of the upcoming elections.

"The commission has also instructed the DAOs to keep all the licensed weapons under their control until the election is completed," states a press statement issued by the EC.
