Editors support Dr KC’s demands, urge govt to act soon

KATHMANDU, July 22: Expressing solidarity with the ongoing fast-unto-death protest of Dr Govinda KC, over a dozen editors of the mainstream media in the country have appealed to the government to address his demands without any further delay.

KATHMANDU, July 22: Expressing solidarity with the ongoing fast-unto-death protest of Dr Govinda KC, over a dozen editors of the mainstream media in the country have appealed to the government to address his demands without any further delay.


Issuing a joint press statement after a meeting on Sunday, 14 editors of mainstream dailies, news magazines, online news portals and televisions have expressed their concerns over the deteriorating condition of Dr KC owing to the prolonged protests demanding reforms in Nepal’s medical education sector.

The editors have said that Dr KC was forced to continue his protest for the 15th time as the major political parties failed to implement the agreements they reached with him on 14 different occasions in the past. “As a result, the repeated hunger strikes have put the life itself of Dr KC in danger,” said the joint statement.


The  editors expressing solidarity with Dr KC’s protest include Ameet  Dhakal (Setopati), Krishna Jwala Devkota (Naya Patrika), Govinda Adhikari (12khari.com), Narayan Wagle (Kantipur daily), Kiran Nepal (Himal Magazine), Rajesh KC (12khari.com) and Prateek Pradhan (12khari.com).


Likewise, Sudheer Sharma (former editor of Kantipur daily), Subhash Ghimire (Republica Daily), Guna Raj Luintel (Nagarik Daily), Akhilesh Upadhyay (The Kathmandu Post),  Raja Ram Gautam (Annapurna Post), Prakash Rimal (The Himalayan Times) and Prashant Aryal (Kantipur TV) have also expressed their solidarity with Dr KC’s demands.
