KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Despite being vaccinated, there are still chances of contracting the COVID-19 virus. However, according to the Ministry of Health and Population, the effects of the coronavirus among vaccinated people is less than others.

Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, the Joint Spokesperson at the MoHP, said that this case, which has already been directed by the World Health Organization (WHO), has been proved even among the infected people in Nepal. “Even if the coronavirus is confirmed, those who have been vaccinated have experienced no serious complications," he said. “People who have contracted COVID-19 in this latest outbreak and were vaccinated are found to be normal.”

According to Dr. Adhikari, COVID-19 infections are 10 times more complicated among those who have not been vaccinated and the risk of death is 17 percent more. Dr. Sher Bahadur Pun, Chief of the Clinical Research Unit at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku, said that the hospital admission rate may have decreased due to vaccination even though both the variants are detected in Nepal.

"In Nepal, both Delta and Omicron variants are present. However, the number of patients with complex problems is low because the vaccinated population has increased and the at-risk groups have already been vaccinated," Dr Pun said.

Doctors say the effects of the corona will be minimal if the government intensifies the vaccination campaign against COVID-19. "How much vaccine coverage can be done determines the effect," Pun said.
