KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested a former police constable after 16 years on the charge of helping a drug dealer escape from police custody. He was made public on Friday morning.
The police arrested former constable Birbal Raya Yadav. He has been accused of helping a drug dealer named Ashraf Aalam escape from the police custody of the Hanuman Dhoka Police Station 16 years ago.
Police fires bullets to subdue drug dealer in Morang
According to SP Rabindra Regmi, spokesperson for the office, Yadav had demanded Rs 10 million to help Aalam escape from custody. Later, both agreed on an amount worth Rs 1 million.
Yadav, who absconded after that, was arrested after 16 years and made public today. The police said that both Aalam and Yadav, who absconded, had reached India. Former Constable Yadav was arrested by the police from Kakarbhitta on Thursday and brought to Kathmandu. Police said that an investigation is underway.
