Dermatologist Arpana Koirala Basnet has released her English novel entitled ‘Fallen, in Love,’ on Wednesday. Amid a press conference organized before the event, the author said that it took seven years for her to write this novel.
“I think literature is in my genes. My grandparents Tarini Prasad and Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala were interested in literature. I think that’s why I have developed this love toward literature from quite early,” said Arpana. “I want to touch the reader’s heart in English language, that’s why I have published this novel in English.”
A Local Government That the Locals Love
The novel has tried to portray the society of the country. Arpana said she met a woman and her daughter in-law in a hospital, and their emotional conversation inspired her to write the novel.
Arpana has written about the experience of migrant women in her novel. She has narrated the story of women who are suppressed or in trauma due to the Maoist insurgency. She said: “I am trying to explore different avenues of love through my writing. I have also tried to raise topics such as migration, family separation, and problems faced by people during the insurgency. I’m trying to convey the message of patriotism to those who do not have access of Nepali language.”
She further said, “I wrote the novel targeting serious readers.”
Arpana is planning to give 10 percent of the proceeds from sale to social activities. She has dedicated the novel to her patients. Bajra Publications Kathmandu has published the book.
