KATHMANDU, June 21: Sudur Biscuits Far-western Football Club and Nepal Police Club topped Group C and Group D respectively in the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Tournament being held at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato.
Far-western beat CMG Sankata Club 2-1 to top Group C, while Police defeated Buddha Air Morang Football Club 1-0 to finish as Group D winner.
The results mean, Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (Group A winner) will take on Sankata (Group C runner-up), while Jhapa (Group A runner-up) will meet Far-western (Group C winner) in the quarterfinals.
Flying starts for Police in National Volleyball
Likewise, Jagdamba Lumbini FC (Group B winner) will face Morang (Group D runner-up) and Tribhuvan Army Club (Group B runner-up) will meet Police in the last eight.
On Monday, skipper Kamal Deuba gave Far-western a lead in the 55th minute. However, Suman Dangol of Sankata netted a goal in the 80th minute to level the scores.
Nevertheless, Deependra Budha converted an important penalty to secure Far-western's victory to top the group.
Similarly, Bijay Shrestha scored the only goal of the match between Police and Morang.
The match winning goal came in the 72nd minute that also saw Police top Group D with two matches to spare. Police had also defeated Sarswati Youth Club in its opener, while Morang played draw against the same opponent.
The quarterfinal matches will begin from Wednesday at the same venue.
