KATHMANDU, May 10: The Federal Alliance on Tuesday made public new program of protest in order to mount pressure on the government to pass the constitution amendment bill before the second phase of local elections.

The protest program came just hours after disgruntled Madhesi and Janajati leaders held meetings with the CPN (Maoist Center) and the main opposition UML.

In a statement issued following a meeting of Madhesi and Janajati parties, the Federal Alliance has announced to hold corner assemblies in various places across the country on May 12 and motorcycle rallies on May 15.

The protest program is unlikely to affect the first phase of the local polls as the agitating parties do not have notable support base in the hill districts.

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal Vice Chairman Brishesh Chandra Lal said that the protest programs unveiled on Tuesday are going to be peaceful.

"We are planning to wait till May 18 before unveiling further programs of protest. We will take part in the polls if the government endorses the constitution amendment bill. If nothing happens, we will focus on protest," said Lal.
