Fifth Nepali dies of coronavirus in New York

UNITED STATES, April 17: Another Nepali citizen living in New York has died of coronavirus on Friday.


Mahesh Amatya, 69, died of the contagion while undergoing treatment at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York.

He was rushed to the hospital after having breathing difficulties on Wednesday evening, according to Tulsiram Acharya, vice-president of Ridgewood Nepali Society.


Amatya, originally from Kathmandu, is survived by his wife and two sons. He went to the United States a few months ago.


He is fifth Nepali to die of the virus in the United States in the past few weeks.


Earlier on Thursday, Pawan Kumar Malla, former assistant sub-inspector of Nepal Police, died of the coronavirus in New York. Malla, 45, died while he was in isolation at his Woodside-based rented room, according to his relatives.
