KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Property worth around Rs 7 million was reduced to ashes after a furniture factory (Sofa Décor Pvt Ltd) based in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, caught fire on Saturday morning.
Fire extinguishers and firefighters from Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts were mobilized in the incident site to contain the fire.
Fire at plastic factory destroys property worth Rs 2.5 million
Security forces from Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force along with locals jointly brought the fire under control.
The fire completely damaged two workshops of the factory before spreading to other two adjacent houses. Speaking about the damage caused by the fire, Kiran Khanal, the owner of the house that partially sustained damages in the fire, said, “The fire damaged property worth around Rs 2 million.” The flame has totally charred the front part of the house.
The actual cause of the fire is still unknown. However, local claimed that the fire was ignited when welding spark from neighboring house caught foam kept in the furniture factory. According to the owner of the furniture factory, Achuyt Parajuli, property worth over Rs 5 million was destroyed by the fire.
