BANKE, Oct 25: Property worth over Rs 10 million gutted in a fire that engulfed half a dozen shops nearby BP Chowk in Nepalgunj last night.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Banke Bir Bahadur Wali informed that the fire engulfed Janata Sirak, Himalaya Furniture, Roshani Furniture, Book shop and fruit shop. He said the inferno caused huge damage to Janata Sirak, Himlaya and Roshani Furniture.
Fire destroys property worth Rs 50 million in Pokhara
Janata Sirak alone saw damage worth over Rs 5 million. It is estimated that the fire destroyed properties worth amounting to Rs 10 million. It was riskier as a petrol pump was nearby the fire site. However, further damage was prevented with the mobilization of security personnel, fire engine and locals to take the fire under control.
Six fire engines, including two from Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, one from Nepalgunj airport and one each from Kohalpur municipality, Madhuwan, Bardiya and Gulariya municipality were mobilized to douse the fire. It may be noted that the fire had broken out in a dozen furniture shops nearby BP Chowk three months ago. Nepalgunj has seen five big incidents of fire in the past three months.
