JANAKPUR, March 14: At least five persons have died after drinking moonshine at Dhanushadham Municipality-5 in Dhanusha district in the course of two days – Thursday and Friday. Likewise, four others are critically ill after consuming the liquor.
The deceased have been identified as Bramha Dev Yadav, Bilas Mandal, Ram Narayan Mahara, Gudari Mahara and Raju Mahara.
According to the District Police Office Dhanusha, four persons died while undergoing treatment at Janaki Medical Teaching Hospital and one died at home. “Two drinkers died Thursday and three on Friday,” according to the police office.

In the meantime, the hospital has said that two drinkers – Ishwar Mandal and Satrughna Mandal – are being treated in the intensive care unit. Both of them are in serious condition, according to DSP Rameshwar Karki.
According to the hospital, the drinkers had consumed methyl alcohol, which is poisonous.
Likewise, Sitaram Yadav has been admitted to Janaki Health Care and Teaching Hospital, while Indrajeet Mahara has been admitted to Dharan-based BP Koirala Memorial Hospital. They are also in serious condition.
Preliminary investigation by police shows that the five had died after alcohol consumption, confirmed Karki.
The kin of four of the deceased have already received the bodies.
Police have arrested two individuals from Ramdaiya on the charge of selling moonshine.
In Province 2, illegally-made liquor is sold everywhere including at the district headquarters Janakpur. Almost two years ago, seven persons had died after consuming moonshine at Kamala Municipality-6 in the district.
