DHADING, May 26: The second wave of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection is increasing day by day. An isolation ward has been established for journalists in Dhading district with support from Shanti Nepal, following the spread of the contagious disease among the frontline workers.

According to Rajaram Sharma, president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) branch in Dhading, two or more journalists renting a room together should isolate themselves immediately if they tested positive for COVID-19. “We have established the isolation ward to ease the difficulties of the infected journalists,” he said. “General health counseling will be provided by a health worker from the health office of Nilkantha Municipality while a psychological counselor will be provided by Sahayatri Samaj,” he added.

The isolation ward has been established due to the exposure of health workers, security personnel, and journalists who are at high risk of getting infected with COVID-19. Also, arrangements have been made to provide services from the temporary COVID-19 hospital and Dhading Hospital with medical oxygen in case of any emergency. So far, 13 journalists have tested positive for COVID-19 in Dhading district.

Also, outgoing presidents of FNJ Dhading, Navraj Chatkuli and Jayram Dhungana will provide the isolation ward with basic necessities like blankets, hand-wash soaps, water heating jugs, and tissue papers.
